Darker than Black 2 – 04

Thanks to one of our commentors for pointing out that the varying agencies still believe that Suou is Shion. Notes have been updated to include this.

Here are some words from the translator.

Torrent: HD
XDCC: 141@INB4RAEP @ BSS IRC Channel
Scripts: DtB S2 Ep4 Script

  1. As a show progresses, you begin to learn more stuff and realize more facts (and translation errors). And so with DtB2, I’ve been going back and updating the .ass for the past eps.
  2. Changes that were made include:
  3. Pecha -> Petya
  4. Mentions of Suou as a girl by the other agencies when in fact they still believe that she is Shion. In particular, in episode 2 when Shizume first meets Suou and calls her a cutie. However, in episode 3, you hear Shizume calling her a “prince.” As of the end of episode 3 however, I do believe all the agencies realize that she is in fact not Shion.
  5. In episode 3, when Kobayashi mentions that laws were passed to allow them to destroy the Syndicate, it was actually supposed to say: “And for that purpose, we have been permitted to take the law into our own hands.”
  6. That’s all for the fixes I believe, and they have been uploaded to our script repository. I will continue updating these scripts as the show progresses, so check back once in a while to see if anything is different. We won’t be releasing any patches for these, however, so you’ll have to make due with muxing it yourselves. Only our final batch release will have all these fixes applied. I might make a tutorial on how to use MKVTOOLNIX though so you won’t have to download the batch.
  7. ———————————————-
  8. Now, to clear up some confusion in episode 3. When Mao asks where Yin is, Hei replies with “Yin… I… I will kill ‘her.’”. It’s hard to translate the first line when Hei doesn’t use any verbs. Some ideas as to what he might have meant may be:
  9. “I left Yin to die.”
  10. or
  11. “I abandoned Yin.”
  12. Something along those lines, though I can’t be sure of course. But this means that the person he means to kill doesn’t exactly mean that it’s Yin, but most likely the person who caused Yin to “die”, be taken away from Hei or cause whatever happened to her. The best answer to this though is to wait and continue watching DtB as the story unfolds, which I’m sure you all will.
  13. One last fact for you guys though. Almost all the lines that Mr. Smith says come straight from Sun Tzu’s “The Art of War.” The only one that doesn’t is “With three advantages, there will be three disadvantages,” which apparently comes from a Korean poem or song. I googled and read through “The Art of War” furiously to look for the exact passages, so I thought I’d just share this with you all. I expect I’ll have to do it again though when Mr. Smith shows up.

after BSS is finished subbing all 12 episodes of DARKER THAN BLACK 2, can they make the rest of the episodes into AVI for those who can’t watch episodes with 250MB or more.
People asked BSS to make it SD version cause its better for them to watch this anime. I agree with them. after ur done subbing all the HIgh Quality ones, make SD versions for those who cant handle the graphics of 350 MB.. people perfer 200 to 250 is fine AVi or MKV is fine

    VLC MEDIA PLAYER says:

To open .mkv files you can simply use VLC media player. Quit asking for .avi extensions.

To all the people complaining about not having a low quality version:

-Encoding a LQ version and distributing it amounts to a small, but irritating task. The subbers do more than enough for everyone already, it’s really just another unnecessary burden to ask for things in multiple formats.

-If you’re running out of hard drive space, buy an external hard drive, it’s a great investment. A 500 gigabyte external hard drive from a good brand can easily be had for under $100 even if you don’t shop around. On sale from a good dealer, you can get a 1500 gigabyte external hard drive for that price.

-If your computer is too slow to render HQ video, you can download a program such as Super (very user friendly) or Mediacoder (very powerful) to convert the movie to a smaller size. Doing this yourself will take about as much time as it would take for the fansubbers to make one themselves and distribute it. Whether you wait an hour for them to upload a LQ video or you download the HQ video and take half an hour to convert it, you’re waiting about the same amount of time either way.

-Incidentally, if you have an external hard drive and “for any reason” you need to very suddenly have absolutely no legally questionable material on hand, even the most well-built external hard drive will not survive long against a microwave oven or, say, an axe.

-Finally, and perhaps most importantly, if there’s only ONE version of a release out there, it is much easier to find a good torrent for it. If you’ve ever tried to find releases of old shows that don’t have a batch torrent, you will understand the frustration that comes when half of the episodes only have seeds in one format, and the other half has no seeds in the other format. Then on the other hand, notice that you can easily find absolutely any and every episode of DB’s Bleach or Naruto releases, all in the same high quality, because they only made one release for each episode.

In one (two) sentence(s): It’s an unnecessary hassle for everyone involved, including you (even if you don’t realize it at the time), when more than one format is released. You’re already getting these for free, either pony up for an external hard drive or convert the episodes yourself to a lower quality, it’s probably a lot easier than you think.

Those recommended programs again for video conversion: “SUPER” (which is very, very simple), and Mediacoder (very, very powerful).

I’m not a representative of BSS or any other fansub group, just someone that realized this a long time ago.

BSS hasn’t released avi for about a year and there are no plans to release avi versions in the future.
