As a show progresses, you begin to learn more stuff and realize more facts (and translation errors). And so with DtB2, I’ve been going back and updating the .ass for the past eps.
-
Changes that were made include:
-
Pecha -> Petya
-
Mentions of Suou as a girl by the other agencies when in fact they still believe that she is Shion. In particular, in episode 2 when Shizume first meets Suou and calls her a cutie. However, in episode 3, you hear Shizume calling her a “prince.” As of the end of episode 3 however, I do believe all the agencies realize that she is in fact not Shion.
-
In episode 3, when Kobayashi mentions that laws were passed to allow them to destroy the Syndicate, it was actually supposed to say: “And for that purpose, we have been permitted to take the law into our own hands.”
-
That’s all for the fixes I believe, and they have been uploaded to our script repository. I will continue updating these scripts as the show progresses, so check back once in a while to see if anything is different. We won’t be releasing any patches for these, however, so you’ll have to make due with muxing it yourselves. Only our final batch release will have all these fixes applied. I might make a tutorial on how to use MKVTOOLNIX though so you won’t have to download the batch.

Now, to clear up some confusion in episode 3. When Mao asks where Yin is, Hei replies with “Yin… I… I will kill ‘her.’”. It’s hard to translate the first line when Hei doesn’t use any verbs. Some ideas as to what he might have meant may be:
-
“I left Yin to die.”
-
or
-
“I abandoned Yin.”
-
Something along those lines, though I can’t be sure of course. But this means that the person he means to kill doesn’t exactly mean that it’s Yin, but most likely the person who caused Yin to “die”, be taken away from Hei or cause whatever happened to her. The best answer to this though is to wait and continue watching DtB as the story unfolds, which I’m sure you all will.
-
One last fact for you guys though. Almost all the lines that Mr. Smith says come straight from Sun Tzu’s “The Art of War.” The only one that doesn’t is “With three advantages, there will be three disadvantages,” which apparently comes from a Korean poem or song. I googled and read through “The Art of War” furiously to look for the exact passages, so I thought I’d just share this with you all. I expect I’ll have to do it again though when Mr. Smith shows up.
Darker than Black 2 – 04

Thanks to one of our commentors for pointing out that the varying agencies still believe that Suou is Shion. Notes have been updated to include this.
Here are some words from the translator.

Love the speed of these subs, keep it up and thanks very much
October 30th, 2009 at 6:17 am
Thanks for the Episode…loving ur releases….
also will you be post the subs separately for every DTB2 eps??
October 30th, 2009 at 6:32 am
@Dark Noah
Please find the subtitles here
http://bssubs.net/ass/index.php?path=dtbs2/
If you want a single mkv file, you will need to mux these yourself, using MKVtoolnix.
It isn’t too hard to use, but it might be a good idea to wait and see if that tutorial will be made.

Thank u, Thank u, thank u….U guys are truly the best…

MKVtoolnix is indeed easy to use.
Drag the MKV file into the “Input Files” box, then drag the new subtiltle (ASS) file into it as well.
Then under “Tracks, Chapters, and Tags” make sure the new subtitle (ASS) file is selected (check marked) and the old one (S_TEXT/ASS) is unchecked.
Then in the “Output Filename” box, add a v2 into the file name and click “Start Muxing”. The original stays in tact (so you can keep seeding if you want) and the new file you made contains the updated subtitles.
The process takes around 20 seconds or so, give or take.

@runedot
I know how to mux the subs by using mkv merge.I was just wondering that will BSS be posting the subs separately for every ep of DTB2 as soon as they release the subbed version
well I do have a tutorial with me that explains how to add subs to a file…I created it my self!!!
October 30th, 2009 at 7:52 am
Great, I can’t wait to get home so I can download this. Thanks guys.

Thank YOU!!
October 30th, 2009 at 10:33 am
thanks a lot for releasing dtb :D
again, a great episode.
thanks.
@about using the .ass subtitle
actually, you can just rename the RAW .MP4 file to .MKV and windows media player will automatically load the subtitle (atleast on windows 7 with combined community codec pack installed)
example:
DtB RAW.MP4 renamed to -> DtB RAW.MKV
and the subtitle renamned to -> DtB RAW.ASS

Thanks for the subs! They’re always appreciated. c:
October 30th, 2009 at 11:40 am
A tutorial on how to use that subbing program would be very handy. It would also make your job simpler as people can just upload the new files into the video themselves, so i do hope you follow through with it :D

The translator’s notes are very interesting to read.
October 30th, 2009 at 1:15 pm
Yay more Hei the bum…I mean yay thanks for the subs :D
October 30th, 2009 at 4:55 pm
You guys are one of the best subbers out there. Most others are lazy and sarcastic, while you all keep to your passion. Keep up the work & thanks for DtB4!
October 30th, 2009 at 6:35 pm
Uh oh at this rate Hei will have a cirrhotic liver by the end of the dozen or so eps.
Kirihara x himecut onna? Oh yeah! ;)
October 30th, 2009 at 10:36 pm
Thanks for the release! But, whatever happened to the SD version of the episodes? I’m running out of space, and the .mkv files take up twice as much space. Not that I’m complaining, just wondering what happened to them.
October 31st, 2009 at 6:31 am
you said that at the end of episode 3 everyone realizes that she’s not Shion, then why at episode 4 Shizume calls her “the professor’s son – the one who BK201 IS DRAGGING AROUND”??
i think you’re wrong. I think he still believes that Sohou is Shion. It just a bit weird because if that’s true then Shizume is a boys pedophille.
October 31st, 2009 at 9:40 am
You may want to dl the RC2 subtitles, they changed that line to, “The little cutie that BK-201 is dragging around.”
October 31st, 2009 at 9:45 am
Whoops, scratch that, I just rechecked and the line it the same.
October 31st, 2009 at 10:19 am
you’re right blabla, my mistake
October 31st, 2009 at 11:14 am
Thanks alot guys, very appreciated :D
October 31st, 2009 at 12:09 pm
needing a avi version!!!! my computer sucks :(
October 31st, 2009 at 12:10 pm
I think that from the beginning the translator needed to understand that everyone is thinking that Suou is Shion. That is a cumulative error.
October 31st, 2009 at 1:26 pm
=/ no avi version? space is so limited
November 1st, 2009 at 1:24 am
I really like and appreciate the subs and how much effort you put in, your an artist unlike most of the other subbers out there. But I need an avi version for psp file transfer.
November 4th, 2009 at 2:17 am
Will you be releasing an .avi version as well?
November 4th, 2009 at 8:23 am
Errrr… Will there be any AVI ver. for this???…
At least reply so that we’ll know…
November 4th, 2009 at 11:19 am
You can convert mkvs for the psp with PSPVC. BSS’ font is big enough with the internal ass renderer, but you can also configure ffdshow to handle the subtitles and increase the size to say 150%.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:20 am
BSS hasn’t released avi for about a year and there are no plans to release avi versions in the future.
November 5th, 2009 at 8:57 am
thanks iya! i was using PSP Video 9 and i’m pretty excited PSPVC, so far it appears to be far more useful.
November 5th, 2009 at 1:38 pm
Thanks for the episode guys!

To all the people complaining about not having a low quality version:
-Encoding a LQ version and distributing it amounts to a small, but irritating task. The subbers do more than enough for everyone already, it’s really just another unnecessary burden to ask for things in multiple formats.
-If you’re running out of hard drive space, buy an external hard drive, it’s a great investment. A 500 gigabyte external hard drive from a good brand can easily be had for under $100 even if you don’t shop around. On sale from a good dealer, you can get a 1500 gigabyte external hard drive for that price.
-If your computer is too slow to render HQ video, you can download a program such as Super (very user friendly) or Mediacoder (very powerful) to convert the movie to a smaller size. Doing this yourself will take about as much time as it would take for the fansubbers to make one themselves and distribute it. Whether you wait an hour for them to upload a LQ video or you download the HQ video and take half an hour to convert it, you’re waiting about the same amount of time either way.
-Incidentally, if you have an external hard drive and “for any reason” you need to very suddenly have absolutely no legally questionable material on hand, even the most well-built external hard drive will not survive long against a microwave oven or, say, an axe.
-Finally, and perhaps most importantly, if there’s only ONE version of a release out there, it is much easier to find a good torrent for it. If you’ve ever tried to find releases of old shows that don’t have a batch torrent, you will understand the frustration that comes when half of the episodes only have seeds in one format, and the other half has no seeds in the other format. Then on the other hand, notice that you can easily find absolutely any and every episode of DB’s Bleach or Naruto releases, all in the same high quality, because they only made one release for each episode.
In one (two) sentence(s): It’s an unnecessary hassle for everyone involved, including you (even if you don’t realize it at the time), when more than one format is released. You’re already getting these for free, either pony up for an external hard drive or convert the episodes yourself to a lower quality, it’s probably a lot easier than you think.
Those recommended programs again for video conversion: “SUPER” (which is very, very simple), and Mediacoder (very, very powerful).
I’m not a representative of BSS or any other fansub group, just someone that realized this a long time ago.
November 7th, 2009 at 8:11 am
To open .mkv files you can simply use VLC media player. Quit asking for .avi extensions.
November 7th, 2009 at 5:12 pm
after BSS is finished subbing all 12 episodes of DARKER THAN BLACK 2, can they make the rest of the episodes into AVI for those who can’t watch episodes with 250MB or more.
People asked BSS to make it SD version cause its better for them to watch this anime. I agree with them. after ur done subbing all the HIgh Quality ones, make SD versions for those who cant handle the graphics of 350 MB.. people perfer 200 to 250 is fine AVi or MKV is fine
November 10th, 2009 at 8:53 pm
I’ve just just downloaded it, but I can’t play it. All my codecs are fine and i can play other MKVs perfectly. Is there something wrong with this episode? I have spent 6 hours long to download this episode.
Someone, please help.. ^^
