Darker Than Black – Drama CD

BSS has been thinking of expanding into drama CDs for a while now since practically no one does them. We had actually intended to do them if a particular season of anime had nothing good airing or if group that is good enough was already on a show that we would have been interested in. So, after hearing that there was a drama CD for DtB from one of the lurkers in our channel, I hopped on Share, hunted it down, and got the group together to sub it (read: mreweilk and me). Quality might not be the usual BSS “quality” since only two people worked on it, but I hope you’ll enjoy it anyway.

Also, We’re still looking for a raw capper that has access to MBS. Contact us in #bss or #bss-recruits@rizon.net.

    The collective squee from my anime club was likely heard throughout the entire campus and mistaken as a doomsday siren. Cheers! This is what separates the real fansubbers from the glory-seeking missiles..

    Thanks a bunch. It’s nice to see drama CD subs.

    Request: Could you by any chance share what the general process of making this was? I’ve been planning to do something like this myself, but I have no idea how it works outside making the script.

    That audio CD was awesome. It’s my first time ever listening to one. I wore a huge grin the entire way.

    I really hope more do follow, it’s great to see the random moments that don’t fit in the plot arcs of the anime.

    Thanks for this.

    Sub Atogatari(s) that come along with the Bakemonogatari OP Singles if you have the time. I’m sure it’ll be appreciated.

    @Ratatosk
    >> I guess it’s a cheap way of testing the market.
    Well, yes for the most part. Making drama CDs is definitely loads cheaper than if they were to make an OVA out of it, but it’s also a way to get people introduced to the story and characters. The Umineko no Naku Koro ni Navigation Drama CDs would be a good example of how the anime makes a little more sense to people who haven’t read the novels if you’ve listened to those CDs. Too bad there’s only two CDs and they stop just before the murders start happening.

    >> How do those painful random-cast-member-sings-a-song-in-character singles that come out fit into all of this I wonder?
    What do you mean by fit? Like, how they can’t fit all the money they’re making off wota who love the franchise into their wallets? Or how the songs-are-cheesy-but-this-is-anison, so it all fits?

    Sometimes, they’re part of the show. *coughWhiteAlbumcough* Sometimes, it’s just weird. Fate Testarossa is a “good singer” according to Signum and the rest, but is she actually or are they just using Mizuki Nana? Speaking of her, she’s singing opera style her Layton character single. Hmmmm.

    Well, hiring Mizuki Nana to sing now is expensive. It’s why she didn’t sing in Memories Off or something and they got that, er, other girl.

    That was a lot of fun; thanks a bunch! I hope you’ll find the time and inclination to do more of those. I enjoyed it almost more than the actual anime, so I’m quite grateful for your selfless efforts.
