Gundam Unicorn – 01: Day of the Unicorn
Update:
I didn’t really want to do a 720p encode but enough people asked for it so I figured why not.
Encoded straight from the source using the official english subs. Contains both the Japanese and English audio tracks. I used editions, a feature of the mkv container to make it easier to switch between the original audio+sub/dub. Many thanks to those who donated to make this possible.
For those of you who do not like re-encodes I will be posting the full disc on usenet in a few days (all 20GB of it) and you may find it there. If you don’t know what usenet is I believe google will provide sufficient education on the matter. If you enjoyed this I encourage you to purchase it, you can find it here on amazon.com. I don’t think I’ll be doing 720p, look for a 720p release from THORA soon. And there will be no smaller size.

Gonna stick to the PSN rip then. Cause 3+ GB is ridiculous. I could easily maintain the quality and encode it to less than 1.5 GB. Even if it is dual-audio.

Why do people keep complaining about file size? HDD’s are cheap these days. And if your computer can’t play 1080 HD, it’s time to upgrade your dinosaur of a computer. You can build a new computer to play HD for 400 bucks.

I dont care about file size, actually seams kinda small to me.
I’m used to 8gb file sizes for 1080p full length movies.
great job on this though.

If you take into consideration that this is NOT a full-length (1 hour at best) movie, then ~3.6GB is about right. If we assume that a full-length movie is 2 hours long and it’s 8GB then 7.2GB~7.3GB is roughly the same.

first of all, no one cares about storing it. its all about DOWNLOADING it. it takes longer, and some of us have download limits (read: most of the F..ing world outside the USA)
a 720p version would solve all these problems, and not need to ditch the audio – 15.g-2GB should be easily sufficient with dual audio, since single aduio 720p TV shows at 45 minutes length fit in 1.1GB files well enough.

I don’t live in the USA and from what I can tell its them who for the most part have bandwidth caps. Anyone living in a big city would have caps. If you want a smaller size rip then go download the non 1080p version. Most of us who are downloading this are only concerned with quality.
Also considering the blu ray probably cost like 50$ im sure you can fit it into your monthly download cap and download it here for free.

Thora 720p released is around 2.9GB, is not that much different (yes I know 700MB) from BSS 1080p released.

I re-encoded the 1080p to 720p.
It came out at 820 MB dual-audio.
I did not re-encode the audio.

thanks for the 1080p. i hope BSS will continue to release 1080p for the upcoming Unicorn OVAs, till the last one, or even Unicorn the movie (if there’s any).

Thanks for the release, I really enjoyed the 1080p. Your releases are always great BSS. Don’t give in to the 1080p haters, even tho I usually go for the 720 over the 1080 when it comes to a movie…. but this is GUNDAM!
