Google has introduced what it calls the Google Inverted Search Index. Basically, an invertible index, also known as an inverted directory, is a virtual indexing database storing a virtual map from keywords, like words or numbers, back to their associated places on the Web, or in some other document or online content. In this way, it makes it easier for clients and customers to look up information that they need, whether it be on the Internet, at a local bookstore or in their own homes. It also makes it easier for search engine optimisation (SEO) experts to produce SEO maps. An invertible search index takes into account how important the location of the keyword is in the search queries and ranks it accordingly.
The google inverted index works in many of the same ways that the regular Google search engine does, but backwards. Instead of looking for keywords by using the whole word as the keywords, Google divides the whole search into two parts: one that contains just the words, and another where you will find the associated links to the pages containing these words. So for example, if the search was “How To Play Golf” this would become “Play Golf” and “How To Play” would become “Play”. This is similar to how the regular Google search engine works.
However, it also contains a few extra tricks. For example, it looks in the same place for every occurrence of the keyword. Therefore, if your website contained “how to play golf” but it also contained “the rules for playing golf”, Google will rank “Play Golf” as the first result and “the Rules For Playing Golf” as the second. It also counts each link to the site, even though it doesn’t look at the contents of the page. This means that the more backlinks you have, the higher up your site will appear in the SERPs.
The reason for this is to try and make the search engines believe that your site is the only one out there that matches the search term. This is one way Google tries to maintain their rank as being the best search engine around. They also do this because it is cheaper for them to do this than to actually pay every website owner to get their link placed in their results. So this means that they are happy to have links on other websites and give out the points for doing so.
Google’s Inverted Index also has some other neat features built into it. For example, when you do a search using a particular search engine (we’ll talk about them in another article) Google will also provide information about how many other sites are linking to your website. This can be very useful for finding new places to link to, but it can also be shown as a percentage. Google shows a lower percentage if a site has more backlinks from other sites. So this can be seen as a tool that can help improve your search engine ranking.
It also provides a list of popular pages on each site. This way, you can see which of your pages gets the most click throughs. This, Google feels, is a good measure of how useful your site is to visitors, and how important they find your site to be. A more important feature is the ability to see how many people click on the links to your home page. This is Google AdWords at its best, as it enables you to target exactly the audience you’re looking for. And finally, the Google Inverted Index can be updated manually, much like the RSS feed.
