Subscription60: Friday, February 1st

Abby Sullivan Feb 1 2019

Hello and welcome to February, my friends. It is National Dark Chocolate Day – which I celebrate every hour on the hour, but today it feels justified. I’m Abby Sullivan, and we are still bundling up hardcore here in Boston, ready to tackle another day in the subscription world. Join us, will you?

Databox Does Outbound If you thought outbound marketing was a dying art, think again. Even HubSpot, the coiner of “inbound marketing,” suggests mixing it up and looking outward. And Databox takes to their blog to highlight the old-school outbound marketing strategies that still get the job done in twenty nineteen.

"When asked to list which outbound marketing tactic is most effective going into 2019, CIENCE’s Eric Quanstrom replied, 'Just one?'"

The ClientSuccess Mindset We know customer success is a mindset, in which you do not feel at ease until they are. So ClientSuccess has the ebook to guide you through fostering customer success as a culture, featuring seven leaders sharing strategies to scale, techniques to align customer success across all departments, and the best practices to hire, compensate, and measure your success teams.

A Churn for the Worse? Or for the Better? Ever thought of customer churn as a plus? Sure, celebrating the loss of a customer seems offbeat, but there are few instances where a customer hitting unsubscribe means you’ve done your job right. Check out this blog post from our Pricing Analyst Wilson, during which he discusses why customer churn isn’t all bad (and can actually help your business in the long run).

"There are strong growth opportunities associated with ‘good churn.'"

In headlines...

Doggie Domination Good news for pups everywhere, as pet subscriptions make waves. The Farmer’s Dog, fresh/personalized meals for pups, raises $39 million in the largest Series B round for a pet startup. In the same regard, the One Health Company raises a $5 million seed round to aid in healing canine cancer, their number one disease killer. More and more companies, like Amazon with its private label Wag, are catching on to the fact that dogs really do rule the world.

FabFitFun (& Wealthy?) FabFitFun receives a whopping $80 mill in funding to dominate the insanely saturated subscription box space. You may have spotted unboxing videos on social media, a tactic the FFF crew has adopted through influencer marketing. The box now includes a magazine with each delivery and a forum online where subscribers can connect - and the investment may mean more for the brand in expanding its reach in the content realm.

Product of the Day

Today, we’re getting groovy with more in the help desk space and a product called Groove 2.0, a shared inbox designed to make customer interactions more meaningful. Your team shares access to emails, a unified knowledge base, and reports, so you can run a more personal connection with customers in a way automation often can't achieve. Groove provides a solid balance between sharing one Gmail account and a big-budget help desk software.
