BIG NEWS: Paddle acquires ProfitWell to "do it for you"

We've acquired BTMetrics

As to not bury the lede, we've acquired BTMetrics, the first subscription financial metrics product built for Braintree Payments.  

When we started ProfitWell six years ago (then Price Intelligently), we started off our mission to understand and put together a unified theory for subscription growth. Essentially, we wanted to get to truth on why a subscription company grew, where that growth specifically came from, and how we could replicate that growth for our users and customers. 

We've cracked the beginning of that problem with Price Intelligently's algorithms around subscription pricing and ProfitWell Retain's focus on subscription retention. 

 

Yet, a cornerstone of that mission is creating the world's largest community of recurring revenue businesses and providing the best subscription metrics product on the market - for free. After all, the only way we're going to crack the subscription growth code is by understanding recurring revenue businesses at the atomic level, and we can't do that alone. 

In that vein, I'm proud to announce that we've acquired BTMetrics, the first subscription financial metrics product built for Braintree Payments. 

Who is BTMetrics and What this means for ProfitWell

BTMetrics was founded by Andrew Rose and Jonathan Peacock out of London and Sydney with a similar philosophy as ProfitWell. Both wanted to help operators understand their subscription businesses and ultimately move us from a world of just looking at a bunch of charts to a world where we're actually surfacing insights and outcomes for customers. 

Andy and Jono continued to march against this mission through the Braintree Payments ecosystem, and as they set their sights on more features and integrations we started chatting about the future of the market, what's best for customers, and really what makes a great company culture.

As we chatted more and more, it became apparent that we should join forces, because we're so closely aligned in philosophy and what we wanted out of the world. Fortunately for all of us, that's exactly what we did. :)

Here are all the fun details: 

  • All BTMetrics users will be migrated over to a ProfitWell account

  • Andy and Jono will be joining the ProfitWell advisory board to keep us moving on advancing our mission

  • ProfitWell metrics for Braintree (and all our other integrations) are still (and will remain) free, because we believe showing you insights and opportunities is valuable, but we should charge you when we make you money, as we do through Retain, Price Intelligently, and some more products coming down the pipe.
